Heartwarming Animal Therapy Delights Residents at Old Raven House Care Home

The charming Old Raven House care home in the idyllic Hook village near Basingstoke was the scene of a heartwarming event. The care home’s residents were treated to a delightful day filled with furry and feathered friends, thanks to Pony Pals and their animal therapy programme.

Pony Pals, renowned for their empathetic animal therapy initiatives, brought a menagerie of animals including rabbits, guinea pigs, a chicken, and ducks to the home. This visit was aligned with their goal of enriching the lives of those in care homes and hospitals through meaningful interactions with animals.

Research has consistently highlighted the profound positive effects of animal therapy, especially for older individuals in care settings. The presence of these gentle creatures offers relaxation, triggers happy memories, and fosters social engagement among the residents.

The home manager of Old Raven House, Anne Turner, shared her thoughts: “The visit from Pony Pals was an absolute joy for everyone involved. It’s heartwarming to see the smiles and hear the laughter among our residents. Such experiences are invaluable, especially for those in our care with dementia. The therapeutic benefits of animal interaction are undeniable, and we are deeply appreciative of Pony Pals for making this day so special.”

Old Raven House boasts a ‘Good’ rating from the Care Quality Commission. The home is commended for its exceptional dementia and residential care services, offered both for long-term and respite stays. This delightful animal visit stands as a testament to their ongoing effort to provide a caring, engaging, and joyful environment for their residents.
