Old Raven House Care Home resident enjoy day out at Hollycombe Steam Fair.

Old Raven House Goes Back In Time

Recently, residents at Old Raven House had a day of nostalgia at Hollycombe Steam Fair in Liphook. Hollycombe prides itself on being Britain’s largest collection of working steam.

Our residents’ thoroughly enjoyed riding the steam railways through the beautiful Hampshire countryside. They then got to relive their younger years at the traditional steam fairground. The rides date back to the beginning of the 20th century and are powered by steam. Residents particularly loved hearing how the steam organs work. One of which was made in 1885 and still requires the skills of an “orchestrator” and “cutter” to make new music books for it to play.

After a picnic in the sunshine, we took another trip on the Hollycombe Steam Train, stopping at a viewpoint to admire the views of the Surrey Hills.
